OVERVIEW

Dazu Rock Carvings were between the late Tang Dynasty and early Song Dynasty. It's a religious cliff inscriptions. Most carvings took Buddhism culture as subject matter, and Confucianism and Taoism sculptures can also be seen in it. The most interesting part is that all of the sculptures show Buddha's life and other stories in Chinese Buddhism. Rock carvings are scattered over Dazu county among which the most famous ones are Baodingshan（Holy Summit） Rock Carvings, Beishan Rock Carvings, Nanshan Rock Carvings etc. Baodingshan（Holy Summit） Rock Carvings are the best preserved parts and it shows the great art value of rock carvings of China about 1000 years ago.

ITINERARY

D 11 Day Dazu Rock Carvings Tour

Transfer from your hotel in Chongqing at 08:00 am to Dazu County for a whole day sightseeing. It is the birthplace of the amazing Dazu Rock Carvings which were created from the late Tang Dynasty (618~907) to the early Song Dynasty (960~1127). With the theme of Buddhism, Dazu Cliffside carvings are distributed in Beishan, Baodingshan, Nanshan, Shimenshan and Shizhuanshan. You will spend the day visiting Baodingshan Carvings located about 527 meters above sea level. It mainly consists of the Dafowan Rock Carvings Area and Xiaofowan Rock Carvings Area. There are about 10,000 statues of Buddha carved on the 500-meter cliff in the U-shape Dafowan. It is said to be a long narrative mural with plenty of commentary but no repeated content. While the tour ends, we will drive you back to Chongqing Hotel.
